Introduction
It gives me great pleasure to present the original works of Trevor Walker Jacob [1918-1996] and David Elisha Davy [1769-1852].
Trevor Walker Jacob spent twenty years from 1967 to 1987 compiling the Jacob’s family histories of East Anglia and it is the most comprehensive study ever undertaken for this family. His original recorded work (ref: 929.2 JACOB) can be viewed in the Suffolk Records Office at Ipswich. Within the Suffolk Family History Society’s library. Here is a link to the introduction to his work that he wrote himself.
The family history is mainly focused on the county of Suffolk with inclusions of Norfolk, Cambridge and Essex. Over 524 parish registers have been fully accounted for together with over 200 documented wills. Comprehensive studies of ancient-deeds, court-rolls, subsidy-returns and patent-rolls have also been included.
Trevor Walker Jacob's work features 135 Jacob pedigree charts descending to William Jacob AD 1138. These pedigree charts have been colour coded to represent the various branches of the family and also include details of documented wills and family histories.
It is hoped we can add to Trevor Walker Jacob's work by including descended families to our additional pedigrees section displayed within the family history category.
David Elisha Davy's works were compiled in circa 1850 and feature the Jacob family histories of East Anglia (ADD MS 19137. folio 119-131v). These works are represented in Davy's Suffolk Collection (MS 19077-19247) and is the most extensive compilation of Suffolk Pedigrees ever documented. His works are recorded at the British Library and can be viewed within the archives department. We have included his works within our family history category together with the works of Trevor Walker Jacob. Both of their individual works catalogue the same families of Jacob.
My own Jacobs name descends from the Jacob family from Stoke-by-Clare, Suffolk. This family is documented in Trevor Walker Jacob's work. I have therefore included to the site my own Essex family history to the additional pedigrees section. I have further included descriptions of Coats of Arms & Crests taken from Joan Corder's - A Dictionary of Suffolk Arms and A Dictionary of Suffolk Crests. I have also added photographs of Ledger Stones relating to the Jacob's of Laxfield, Suffolk. These can be viewed within the Armoury category.
It must be stated no mention has been made here of relatives who may well be living as there is no prior permission and the need to protect their privacy.
I would like to thank Mrs Wynne Browes (librarian) from the Suffolk Family History Society for her permission and help to present the works of Trevor Walker Jacob. Wynne is a descendant of the Jacob family of Gislingham, Suffolk. All necessary permissions to re-produce this material should be addressed to Mrs Wynne Browes. Her contact details can be viewed on the Suffolk Family History Society web site.
I must thank Sandra Powlette, Permissions Manager from the British Library for her help and assistance with obtaining permission to reproduce the work of David Elisha Davy onto the site. All copyrights to his work are retained by the British Library.
And a special thank you to Kenneth Jacob for supplying the Coats of Arms images in the Armoury category & title heading. All necessary permissions to re-produce this material should be addressed to Kenneth Jacob of "My Jacob Family. Kenneth’s own web site features pedigrees and narrations of some of the families covered on this site.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any enquiries on The Jacob's Family of East Anglia. We would like to include further additional pedigrees from any Jacob or Jacobs descended to this family.
I must attribute this site to Trevor Walker Jacob and David Elisha Davy and hope you enjoy this presentation of their original work.
James Jacobs.
